Rica Takashima art show

I’ll be doing a small exhibition at a charming bookstore in Higashi-Nakano, Tokyo.

The show will feature original manga manuscript from “Rika tte Kanji!?” which was serialized in the 1990s in the queer women’s magazines Phryné and Anise, as well as limited archive materials from the 2003 American anthology Yuri Monogatari.

You’ll also be able to actually browse some rare original magazines in person.

There will also be new posters, stickers, English editions of my manga, and signed copies of “By Your Side” by Erica Friedman available for sale.

Rica Takashima @ricatakashima

Manga artist, contemporary artist, born in Shinjuku Ni-chome, graduate of Tokyo University of the Arts.

Currently based in NYC, working mainly in Brooklyn and the Bronx on collaborations with Vocaloid musicians and game creators. Pokémon GO friend code: 2606 9491 9223.

In 2003, the collected edition of “Rica ’tte Kanji!?” was published by ALC Publishing, becoming the world’s first officially translated yuri manga in English. Afterwards, she continued serializing manga in the American anthology Yuri Monogatari until 2009.

She moved to NYC in 2008. In 2012, the title was changed to “Tokyo Love: Rica ’tte Kanji!?,” which was selected as Best Manga at events including San Diego Comic-Con. In 2025, the sequel “New York Love: Rica ’tte Kanji!?” received the Queens Art Fund award in New York City.

Before moving to the United States, she began the participatory interactive art project series “Aozora Art” in 1994 at the Harajuku pedestrian paradise in Tokyo. Since then, the project has been invited to art festivals, museums, and educational institutions.

Akiko Morishima @akicocotto

Manga artist and illustrator.

She debuted in 1997 in Anise (Terra Publishing), a magazine for queer women, contributing spot illustrations and four-panel comics.

After working in educational magazines, four-panel comic magazines, and TL (“Teen Love”) manga magazines, she became known for her yuri manga works, especially through Comic Yuri Hime (Ichijinsha).

For the anime Yurikuma Arashi, she worked on the original character designs and manga adaptation. She also created the cover illustration for “Introduction to Yuri Studies: From Queer and Feminist Perspectives.”

She is currently serializing “Hitori Midesu” (KADOKAWA/CandleA), a manga depicting the life of a single lesbian woman in her 60s.

東京・東中野の素敵な本屋さんで小さな展示をします。6月のプライド月間にこのように展示の機会がいただけてとても嬉しいです。

1990年代、クィア女性向け雑誌『フリーネ』『アニース』に連載されていた「リカって感じ!?」のマンガ原稿や、2003年にアメリカで刊行されたアンソロジー『百合物語』の限定アーカイブを展示します。
貴重な雑誌も実際に手に取ってご覧いただけます。新作描き下ろしポスター、ステッカー、英語版漫画、エリカフリードマン氏のサイン入り『By Your Side』などの販売もあります。

高嶋リカ　Rica Takashima @ricatakashima

漫画家・現代美術家・新宿２丁目出生・東京ゲイ術大学卒
NYC在住、ブルックリン・ブロンクスを拠点にボカロ、ゲーム作家とのコラボレーションを制作中。ポケモンGOのフレンドコードは2606 9491。9223 2003年に「Rica ‘tte Kanji!?」単行本がALCパブリッシングより出版、世界初の英訳百合マンガとなる。その後米国アンソロジー『百合物語』にて2009年までマンガ連載を続ける。2008年よりNYCに移住。 2012年に「Tokyo Love: Rica ‘tte Kanji!?」にタイトル変更、サンディエゴ・コミコンなどでベストマンガに選出される。2025年に続編「New York Love: Rica ‘tte Kanji!?」がNY市Queens Art Fund受賞。 米国移住以前の活動：1994年に参加型インタラクティブアートプロジェクト「あおぞらアート」のシリーズを東京原宿歩行者天国で開始、以降は芸術祭、美術館、教育施設などに招聘される。

森島明子　Akiko Morishima @akicocotto

漫画家・イラストレーター
1997年レズビアン＆バイセクシュアル女性のための情報誌『アニース』（テラ出版）にて、カットイラストと4コマ漫画でデビュー。その後、学習誌・4コマ漫画誌・TL誌を経て『コミック百合姫』（一迅社）を中心に百合漫画を発表。テレビアニメ『ユリ熊嵐』ではキャラクター原案・コミカライズを担当。『はじめての百合スタディーズ　クィア／フェミニストの視点から』では表紙イラストを手がける。現在は、60代シングルレズビアンの人生を描く『ひとりみです』（KADOKAWA/CandleA）を連載中。
